Market rises on fair quality

THERE were approximately 350 export and 400 young cattle penned representing an increase of 50 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a dearer market.
Quality was fair with a few more grain assisted cattle while most grass cattle lacked finish.
A limited selection of well finished heavy vealers sold 16 cents to 17 cents per kilogram dearer.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade improved from five cents up to 15 cents.
Grown steers and bullocks were from mostly a few cents better up to 15 cents dearer for some.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers jumped 26 cents while the crossbred portion held firm.
Heavy vealers suited to butcher orders sold from 370 cents to 390 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 360 cents and 393 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 330 cents and 386 cents, feeder steers made from 310 cents to 370 cents, and grown steers sold from 330 cents to 373 cents.
Bullocks made between 352 cents and 368 cents and heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 305 cents and 318 cents with the crossbred portion between 305 cents and 335 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 15 August is: 1, Landmark; 2, Nathan Gibbon Livestock; 3, Alex Scott; 4, SEJ; 5, Elders; 6, Rodwells; 7, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts.
