Buyers pitch in to stronger market

THERE were approximately 375 export and 350 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 80 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present competing in a stronger market.
Quality improved with a much better selection of grass and grain finished cattle on offer.
Vealer supply was limited with averages firm to five cents per kilogram dearer although the top price was not quite as high as the last sale.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade gained five cents to 10 cents for most and up to 25 cents on some sales.
Grown steers and bullocks improved four cents to eight cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish gained 22 cents.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 366 cents to 413 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 360 cents and 402 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade made between 332 cents and 393 cents. Light and medium weight yearling steers to feed and restock sold between 335 cents and 391 cents.
Grown steers made from 352 cents to 375 cents. Bullocks sold from 340 cents to 352 cents. Heavy weight grown heifers made between 335 cents and 348 cents.
