Full field of buyers in weighty market

THERE were approximately 460 export and 450 young cattle penned representing an increase of 250 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present but not all operating fully in a cheaper market.
Quality continued to improve with a few more prime trade weight cattle and a better selection of bullocks with plenty of weight.
Vealers eased up to 10 cents per kilogram although the best B muscle lots sold firm.
A limited selection of yearling trade steers were off five cents to 15 cents while a larger and more mixed offering of heifers to the trade eased three cents to nine cents.
Grown steers eased eight cents while the bullocks slipped 20 cents with weight an issue.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers eased nine cents.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 377 cents to 412 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 366 cents and 400 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 335 cents and 398 cents.
Grown steers made from 330 cents to 367 cents.
Bullocks sold from 342 cents to 349 cents.
Heavy bullocks made between 335 cents and 348 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold mostly between 282 cents and 338 cents with many carrying excessive fat cover.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers made from 303 cents to 350 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 10 October is: 1, Alex Scott and Staff; 2, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 3, S.E.J.; 4, Rodwells; 5, Landmark; 6, Elders; 7, Nathan Gibbon Livestock.
