Missing buyer draws down prices

THE 209 head yarded on Wednesday last week at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange sold to mixed demand, mainly due to a larger portion of secondary pens.
Bullock numbers were up and with this prices were pushed upward, heifer numbers were back and with one missing buyer in this category, prices slipped slightly on average.
Steer numbers were steady and sold to good demand with re-stockers strong, and vealers sold to stronger demand with good results.
This week’s yard average rose seven cents to 339.3 cents.
Fourteen bullocks made to 340 cents, up five cents, and averaged 322.3 cents, up 40 cents, 40 heifers made to 399.6 cents, up 18 cents, and averaged 311.5 cents, back five cents, 38 steers made to 399.6 cents, up 33 cents, and averaged 336 cents, up four cents, and 103 veal made to 430 cents, up 17 cents, and averaged 367.9 cents, up nine cents.
A smaller yarding on Thursday did little to sway buyers as demand remains firm and could be considered as settled at a peak.
Nineteen bulls reached 324.6 cents, up 13 cents on last sale, and averaged six cents better at 277.5 cents, while 323 cows made to a top of 293.2 cents to average 230.7 cents, up eight cents on last week, and the yard average for Thursday was up 10 cents to 235.9 cents.
The draw for 19 and 20 October is: 1, Gibbon; 2, Elders; 3, Scotts; 4, SEJ; 5, Landmark.
