Numbers fall as demand rises

A fall in numbers for last week’s Wednesday fat sale saw some very good vealers sold to top at 390 cents per kilogram.
Demand remained firm to stronger, steers saw more interest from processors and the week’s yard average was up seven cents to 320 cents.
Twenty-five heifers made to 323.6 cents firm and averaged 292.3 cents, 33 steers made to 342.6 cents firm and averaged 284.7 cents, 233 veal made to 390 cents firm and averaged 336 cents.
With the yarding of cows 50 less than the previous week with the public holiday coming up, cows sold about the same as the previous week.
The yard average was up two cents on the previous week’s market, 25 bulls sold to a top of 274.2 cents, up 10 cents with more beef bulls.
Cows reached a top of 279.6 cents and the average was up two cents to reach 198.2 cents.
The draw for 15 and 16 March is 1, Landmark; 2, Scotts; 3 NGL; 4, SEJ; 5, Elders.
