Yard boosted after holiday

There were approximately 800 export and 600 young cattle penned representing an increase of 800 head week-on-week with the large increase due to last week’s holiday affected supply at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a firm prime market while secondary light weight young cattle sold to stronger demand.
Quality improved with a better selection in most categories including a larger offering of grain assisted trade cattle.
Young cattle suited to the trade sold from firm to five cents dearer for most while secondary light weights to feed or turn out improved 15 cents and more in places.
Grown steers and bullocks sold from firm to slightly easier.
Vealers suited to butchers sold from 341 cents to 375 cents, yearling trade steers made between 330 cents and 372 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 296 cents and 365 cents.
Feeder steers made from 310 cents to 393 cents.
Grown steers sold from 310 cents to 333 cents, bullocks made between 312 cents and 330 cents, heavy weight grown heifers sold between 287 cents and 319 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 240 cents to 286 cents with the crossbred portion from 272 cents to 314 cents.
The next store sale is on Thursday 4 May at 10am.
