Good pens in store

There were a few less head last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange with 277 penned of which 70 per cent were vealers.
Among these were several pens of good stores which reached prices of 421.6 cents per kilo.
Processor veal started at 388.2 cents firm on the last sale, the vealer category was regarded as firm to slightly stronger without the stores and with these pens included the average rose seven cents to 343.7 cents.
Bullocks, heifers and steers were easier with heifers heavier this week slipping the most on average but only $10 cheaper in the price per head calculation.
The week’s yard average was back four cents to 321.1 cents.
Eleven bullocks made to 327.2 cents, up 47 cents, and averaged 277.2 cents, back three cents, 15 heifers made to 335 cents, up nine cents, and averaged 287.5 cents, back 10 cents, 48 steers made to 340 cents firm, and averaged 295.9 cents, back three cents, 194 veal made to 388.2 cents firm and averaged 343.7 cents, up seven cents.
Thursday’s bull and cow sale was stronger with the yard average lifting 12 cents to 215.6 cents, there were 18 good bulls penned and topped at 333.2 cents, up 51 cents, and the bull average was 41 cents up at 289.5 cents.
Cows also lifted on the day reaching 294.6 cents, up 20 cents, and averaged 11 cents better at 210.6 cents.
