Prices firm in growing market

There were approximately 330 export and 400 young cattle penned representing an increase of 50 head from the sale of a fortnight ago at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality remained wintry with prime cattle in short supply and a better selection of feeder steers.
Trade cattle sold mostly firm with some better grain assisted lots a little dearer.
The better selection of feeder steers improved mostly 10 cents. Grown steers and bullocks sold mostly firm with some secondary lots cheaper due to quality.
Vealers to butchers sold from 327 cents to 362 cents, yearling trade steers made between 314 cents and 366 cents and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 282 cents and 355 cents.
Grown steers made from 278 cents to 32 cents, bullocks sold from 308 cents to 318 cents and a handful of heavy weight grown heifers made between 265 cents and 290 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 26 June is 1, SEJ; 2, Alex Scott and Staff; 3, Rodwells; 4, Nathan Gibbon Livestock; 5, Landmark; 6, Elders; 7, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts.
