Buyers quieter in cheaper and smaller market

There were approximately 150 export and 160 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 220 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present but not operating fully in a cheaper market.
Quality was limited with only a handful of prime cattle scattered throughout the meagre offering.
A handful of good vealers sold to solid demand with some dearer sales for better quality.
Yearling trade cattle eased around 10 cents on most sales.
Grown steers sold six cents to eight cents cheaper and there were no bullocks on offer.
Vealers to butchers sold from 334 cents to 371 cents, yearling trade steers made between 300 cents and 346 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 285 cents and 338 cents and grown steers made from 285 cents to 310 cents.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers sold from 252 cents to 296 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 17 July is: 1 Rodwells, 2 Everitt, Seeley & Bennetts, 3 Landmark, 4 Alex Scott & Staff, 5 S.E.J, 6 Nathan Gibbon Livestock, 7 Elders.
