Quality shortage leaves buyers unimpressed

There were approximately 190 export and 100 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 150 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present but not all operating fully in a cheaper market.
Quality declined with only a sprinkling of prime cattle scattered throughout the limited offering.
Most trade cattle slipped around 15 cents with quality an issue and only the best lots close to firm.
The limited selection of grown steers and bullocks eased five cents to 10 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers and manufacturing steers sold firm.
Vealers reached a top of 320 cents, yearling trade steers sold mostly from 270 cents to 290 cents after a top of 305 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade made between 251 cents and 289 cents, grown steers sold between 256 cents and 277 cents, and bullocks made from 272 cents to 279 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold from 245 cents to 264 cents, and heavy weight manufacturing steers made between 215 cents and 268 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 2 October is: 1 Alex Scott and Staff, 2 SEJ, 3 Rodwells, 4 Elders, 5 Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts, 6 Nathan Gibbon Livestock, 7 Landmark.
The next store sale is on Thursday 5 October at 10am.
