Vealer market sees rises

A yarding of predominantly vealers at last week’s Baw Baw Livestock Exchange saw small to good rises.
Very few bullocks and heifers were penned with the heifer category seeing the biggest drop in numbers but managed a rise in the average of 12 cents to 260.2 cents.
Vealer quality still remains very good and this forced this week’s top up 10 cents.
The yard average rose 25 cents to 286.8 cents.
Twenty-three steers made to 319.2 cents, up 18 cents, and averaged 250.5 cents, up nine cents, 131 veal made to 369.6 cents, up 10 cents, and averaged 301.3 cents, up 16 cents.
The Thursday bull and cow sale was back in numbers with 305 head penned.
Ten bulls topped at 266.6 cents, back 23 cents, to average 13 cents easier at 244.2 cents, and there were 290 cows on offer making to 265 cents, up 17 cents, and the cow average was seven cents better at 208.4 cents, with the yard average four cents up at 210.6 cents.
