Smaller yard forces up prices

A smaller yarding of 155 head at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange on Wednesday last week pushed competition among buyers who were fresh from the long weekend.
All categories except heifers recorded a rise in the average price although heifer weights were heavier resulting in the per head price lifting $60.
The week’s yard average was 16 cents up at 286.6 cents.
Four bullocks made to 281.2 cents, up 13 cents, and averaged 273.1 cents, up 13 cents, 12 heifers made to 323.2 cents, up 33 cents, and averaged 255.8 cents, back three cents, 50 steers made to 300 cents, firm, and averaged 283.2 cents, up 11 cents.
Seventy-seven veal made to 380.2 cents, up 44 cents, and averaged 308.9 cents, up 30 cents, 245 head on Thursday saw 11 bulls make to 305.2 cents, with the average up 20 cents to 272.7 cents, and the top for the 227 cows yarded was 253.2 cents and the average was up three cents to 210.7 cents
The Thursday yard average was five cents better at 216.4 cents.
The draw for 15 and 16 November is: 1, Elders. 2, Scotts. 3, Gibbon. 4, SEJ. 5, Landmark.
