Mixed results from larger yard

There were extra numbers in the heifer and veal sections last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, with mixed results.
Heifer numbers jumped to 85 head and the heavier bodies attracted buyers and resulted in the heifer average firm on recent sales.
All other categories slipped on average to varying degrees, mostly because of the lack of numbers needed.
This week the yard average eased 19 cents to 267.6 cents.
Thirteen bullocks made to 265 cents, back 16 cents and averaged 255.2 cents, back 18 cents, 85 heifers made to 290 cents, back 33 cents and averaged 255.6 cents, firm.
Twenty-eight steers made to 273.2 cents, back 26 cents, and averaged 229.7 cents, 113 veal made to 365.2 cents, back 15 cents, and averaged 300.1 cents, back nine cents.
There was a much larger yarding of 34 bulls on Thursday and one missing buyer eased pressure on the sale pulling the average back.
The top for the week was 283.2 cents and the average was 225.9 cents.
There were 302 cows on offer and the week’s top sale was 250 cents and the average was back two cents to 208.7 cents.
Also penned were 13 bullocks making to a top of 231.2 cents and the yard average was five cents easier at 211.3 cents.
The draw for 22 and 23 November is: 1, SEJ; 2, Elders; 3, Gibbon; 4, Scotts; 5, Landmark.
