West Gippy grand final stands out

By Gazette sports editor Russell Bennett

This year’s West Gippsland Football Netball Competition (WGFNC) grand final day will be held on a Sunday, rather than the more common Saturday fixture.

And the main reason is simple – avoiding clashes with other leagues in nearby and neighbouring areas.

As stated in an email from the WGFNC, seen by the Gazette, this year’s grand final will be held on Sunday, 16 September – rather than Saturday the 15th. The email states the decision has been made after discussion with the competition’s committee of management and after careful consideration of the ‘heavy schedule of grand finals’ on the Saturday across Gippsland.

This means that the biggest day on the WGFNC calendar will be held without direct competition or clashes from surrounding leagues or competitions.

The last ever SEFNL grand final will be held on the Saturday (the 15th), as will the Ellinbank and District decider.

More to come.
