Quality edges up while prices ease at Pakenham VLE

There were about 500 export and 170 young cattle penned representing an increase of 580 head week-on-week.

Most of the usual buying group was present and operating in a cheaper market.

Quality improved although remained very mixed with more prime cattle and a smaller proportion of cows.

Trade cattle eased 15c to 20c/kg.

Grown steers eased slightly while bullocks lost 15c to 20c/kg.

Heavy heifers eased 8c/kg.

Friesian manufacturing came off 5c while crossbreds were back 15c/kg.

Cows sold 10c to 20c/kg cheaper while heavy bulls sold firm.

Vealers sold from 493c to 602c while yearling trade steers made between 540c and 575c/kg.

Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 450c and 556c/kg.

Grown steers made from 460c to 520c with bullocks selling from 420c to 480c/kg.

Heavy heifers showing good finish made between 425c and 486c/kg.

Heavy Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 370c and 400c with the crossbred portion between 400c and 454c/kg.

Most light and medium weight cows made from 255c to 370c/kg.

Heavy weight cows sold mostly from 318c to 400c/kg.

Heavy bulls made between 346c and 400c/kg.
