MOTORCYCLISTS riding along Gembrook Road, Gembrook, should benefit from a $96,900 boost to improve road safety conditions, according to Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato.
“This funding will be used to install speed and curve advisory signs, curve alignment markers and motorcyclist friendly guideposts along the entire length of Gembrook Road. Six kilometres of edge lining will also be installed,” Ms Lobato said.
“Gembrook Road has an unacceptable crash record, with six motorcycle crashes having occurred in the last five years.
“Most of these were run-off-road crashes at or near curves.
“These road improvements will make a dramatic difference to the safety of motorcyclists, enabling riders to better predict and negotiate the road environment.”
Ms Lobato said motorcyclists were among the state’s most vulnerable road users, accounting for about 11 per cent of the annual road toll, despite comprising less than one per cent of travel on Victorian roads.
