VITAL links to the past will be preserved with a $6000 grant to the Gembrook Township Committee from the Bracks’ Government’s Local History Grants Program.
Committee representatives were joined by Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato at a function at the Public Records Office at North Melbourne last week where they were presented with a certificate by the Minister for Victorian Communities, John Thwaites.
Ms Lobato said the grant was to enable the Gembrook Historic Activities project to get underway.
This project will enable research on the history of the town to be carried out and a panoramic display to be constructed to complement a number of documented walks in the area.
“Preserving and sharing the heritage of communities in stories, images or artefacts is essential to maintaining the vitality of communities,” Ms Lobato said.
“This is a terrific boost for the town and another welcome funding injection into Gembrook. I commend the tireless work of the members of the Gembrook Township Committee,” she said.
