Cougar pair pounce

A 131 second-wicket partnership by Jarrod Leontini and Callum O’Hare helped Clyde’s A-grade team set up a formidable 288 against Devon Meadows on Saturday.

A GRADE

Clyde captain Shane Jack won the toss and elected to bat and Brian Zerbst got Clyde off to a steady start with 19, before Leontini and O’Hare got firing.
O’Hare (69) made his maiden A-grade half-century and Leontini top-scored with 74.
Steve Madin smashed a quick 46, including 20 off one over, while coach Noel O’Brien worked with the tail and made 50 not out.
Clyde will be looking for a good bowling performance this week to consolidate.

B GRADE

Hosting Nyora, Clyde won the toss and elected to bowl.
The Nyora performed well making 7/289, but was helped by eight dropped catches.
Cougar newcomer Aaron Jones was the leading wicket-taker with 4/67 from 16 overs, all wickets coming in three overs.
Daven Johnson took 1/20, Robbie Dierickx 1/26 and Ross Elston 1/67.
Clyde then faced eight overs and was 1/18 at the end of play.

D GRADE

Playing Emerald at Hillcrest, Clyde was sent in and struggled, being dismissed for 128.
Ritchie Bertram made a return to form with a steady 30, while Dean Jackson made 16, Luke Moxey 14, Nick Miles 13 and Tarha Shaikh 13 not out all got starts, but were unable to go on.
Clyde then bowled 29 overs and Nick Miles bowled a sensational spell to have the Bombers in trouble with 5/19 from 12 overs.
A run out then had Emerald at 6/61 at stumps.

F GRADE

Playing Gembrook, Clyde batted first and made a handy total of 143.
Chris Berendorf top-scored with 39 not out, Mick Bishop made 22 and Mick McGuiness 19.
The Clyde bowlers then skittled Gembrook for just 78, Duane DeRozario taking 4/20 off six overs and Simon Marshall 3/4 from his two overs.

UNDER 16

Clyde was sent into bat by Nyora and struggled to build partnerships in its total of just 61.
Nick Miles made 15 as did Zac Clarke, Ben Sonnet chipping in with 7.
Nyora was 0/16 at the end of play.

UNDER 14

Clyde batted first against Cardinia and made a steady 7/106.
Dylan Hadfield top scored with 26 while Adam Ballard (23), Den Reilly (13) and Luke Hurd (10) all made good contributions.

UNDER 12

Winning the toss, Clyde elected to bat and ended up with 101 after the end of play.
Top scorers were Kane Avard (21 not out), James Harmes (20 not out) and Sam Adamson (14).

CLUB NOTES

Don Round, who was instrumental in running Clyde Cricket Club when the club was in the DDCA, passed away last Tuesday.
The Clyde perpetual bowling aggregate trophy is named after him and his name is on the honour board for a 12-wicket haul against Heinz Southern Districts.
Players wore black armbands during the weekend matches in his memory.
