Lock cars and don’t tempt thieves

Callan Date
A SPATE of thefts from motor vehicles in the Emerald area has police urging all vehicle owners to secure cars and ensure valuables are not left on display.
Six different incidents were reported to Pakenham Police in one week, with the first two thefts occurring on 3 April in Woodlands Avenue, Emerald.
Items stolen from the cars included a golf bag, laptop computer and camera worth a total value of over $2000.
The third theft occurred early on 4 April in Durban Road, Emerald, with a small amount of cash stolen from a car parked in the driveway.
Two amplifiers worth $2000 were stolen from a car parked in a driveway in Calvington Drive, Emerald between the hours of 7pm and 10pm on 5 April.
Over $2000 of goods was stolen from a car parked outside The Paradise Hotel in Clematis on Saturday, 8 April including a car fridge, navigation equipment, tools and four wheel drive accessories.
The sixth theft was from a car in the car park of the Crystal Brook picnic area, with a laptop and other computer equipment stolen which was valued at $3200.
Police said thefts from vehicles were a constant headache.
Senior Sergeant Steve Lewis reinforced the need for motorists to give thieves no opportunity.
“People should leave their cars secure and don’t leave items such as wallets, sunglasses or other valuables on the front seat or anywhere where they might tempt opportunistic thieves,” he said.
Anybody with any information about the thefts is urged to conact Pakenham Police on 5941 1033.
