CASEY mayor Kevin Bradford has pressured Casey members of parliament to support the council’s bypass campaign.
The mayor outlined the Casey campaign to secure funding from the State Government for the Cranbourne Bypass.
He told the parliamentarians the City of Casey did not support VicRoads’ view that upgrading Clyde Road would address the problem of getting traffic out of Cranbourne’s High Street.
He argued that the council did not accept the premise that the Clyde Road route to Monash Freeway at Berwick would provide a route acceptable to Dandenong South and Braeside/Mordialloc traffic.
“The council considers that this traffic will still travel through the Cranbourne Shopping Centre.
“Unfortunately for Cranbourne, VicRoads is still hanging its hat on its Cranbourne Township Bypass Study, even though it is seven years old and based on population projections and traffic assumptions that are no longer valid.”
Cr Bradford urged the MPs to support the longplanned $12 million connection between the South Gippsland Highway and Cameron Street, and to also provide relief to Cameron Street by undertaking the muchneeded duplication project.
“Together these two components will bring a greater amenity and prosperity to the Cranbourne commercial area — a win for all residents,” he said.
