Lock up or lose it, say police

Paul Dunlop
A SPATE of thefts from cars in Pakenham has police again warning residents to ensure their cars are kept locked and that valuables are not left inside.
Senior Sergeant Steve Matthews said several cars had been broken into over the past week with a variety of valuable items stolen.
Cars parked in Racecourse Road and Duncan Drive had been particularly targeted in the latest spate of thefts, he said.
“Compact disks and car stereo equipment, sunglasses, wallets, mobile phones – all are items that can be very tempting for thieves if they are left sitting in cars,” Sen Sgt Matthews said.
“It is vital that people lock their cars and keep valuables secure.”
Sen Sgt Matthew said up to six cars were broken into along Racecourse Road, while thefts were reported from another four cars parked in Duncan Drive.
“It’s frustrating for police and residents when we get flareups of this type of thing,” Sen Sgt Matthews said.
“The message is to lock up or risk losing it.”
