THE community transport program is one of a broad range of care options that provides responsive services for frail or disabled clients to enable them to participate in their community.
Transport needs include attending appointments with their doctor, a hospital visit or taking part in community activities.
All drivers are volunteers who, if required, wait with the client to ensure they are comfortable and secure.
An innovative service has recently been developed for people who need extra care where a trained staff member accompanies the volunteer to provide additional support and supervision.
Mecwa Cardinia Care director of community services Marita Scott said clients living in Cardinia Shire, often in rural and isolated areas, may be at risk of social isolation.
“The value of the volunteer driver cannot be overstated,” she said.
“We are very grateful for their generosity and outstanding commitment to the community.”
