Buyers firm market

At VLE Pakenham there were approximately 1100 export and 900 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 200 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality was mixed with fewer good soft vealers, a larger offering of steers and bullocks and a larger proportion of the yarding showing the effects of the drying summer.
Vealers suited to butcher orders and yearling cattle suited to the trade sold to firm demand with small price fluctuations due to quality.
Grown steers and bullocks sold at equal prices with the odd dearer sale for better quality.
Heavy weight grown heifers held firm.
Heavy weight Friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers sold to firm demand.
The vealers sold mostly from 202 cents to 261 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 222 cents and 247 cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 204 cents and 240 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 205 cents to 225 cents with the heifer portion from 204 cents to 220 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers sold from 210 cents to 232 cents per kilogram.
Bullocks made between 213 cents to 234 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold mostly between 200 cents and 218 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 187 cents to 192 cents with the crossbred portion from 195 cents to 213 cents per kilogram.
