Marsiglio nets A Grade title

WITH one round yet to play in the Beaconhills Club Championships, several concurrent events have been decided.
The three grade winners of the nett championships are A Grade: Joe Marsiglio (204 nett), B: Peter Johnston (203 nett on a countback from Dominic Pantano) and C: Fifteenyearold Tristan Nowak.
The junior championship was won by Matt Buff with 225 gross. David Crowe won the veteran’s championship with 229 gross and runnerup was Steve Murray, two shots further back on 231 gross.
Going into the final round of the championships, Joe Marsiglio with a 218 gross has a fiveshot lead over the rest of the field.
His nearest rival is Brad Crowley, whose 71 on Saturday has him at 223. Ryan Fuller is at 224, Matt Buff at 225 and Lou Skantzos and Andrew Conn are tied on 228.
In B Grade Peter Johnston has maintained his threeshot lead over Chris Gamble. Peter is on 243 and Chris on 246. Steve Mancer put in an excellent round to now sit in third position on 247, followed by five players tied on 253 Wayne Hassall, Dominic Pantano, Rohan Booth, Russell Shaw and Jim Harper.
Charlie Miranda has overtaken Martin Balsarini in C Grade and now leads by four shots. Charlie is on 267, Martin on 271, followed by Wayne Davey and Wayne Johnson both on 277, Michael Utting on 279 and then Peter Liakopoulos.
The third round was played on the Old Course and the concurrent competition of the day had three grade winners. A Grade: Roy Solomon 71/64, B Grade: Steve Mancer 79/65 and C Grade: Tristan Nowak 92/66. There was also a competition on the Lakes for those not in the championships. John Williamson’s 41 points was the winning score. The ninehole Junior competition was cancelled due to the extreme heat.
On Sunday it was Murray O’Dwyer and Barry Mollison who combined best in the four ballbest ball competition, winning the competition with 46 points.
Midweek competitions were held on the Lakes. Tueday’s Par competition saw the club’s president Doug Eastick continue his recent run of good form, winning Tuesday’s competition with 44 points to runnerup Graham Whitaker’s 43 points. On Thursday, Colin Baxter’s +4 won B Grade while Stuart Mills’ +7 in A Grade was the best score returned.
In the stroke competition on Wednesday, the ladies field played for the February monthly medal and putting spoon. Gloria Minehan won her second monthly medal and her second competition in a row with a superb 97 gross, nett 63. Jenny Browning’s 26 putts won her the putting spoon on a countback from Bev Eckhardt. A Grade pro pin was won by Anne Madigan and B Grade by Mary Griffin. Paula Rae and Sally Kunz were the nearest the pin winners.
After the championships, the club moves straight into gearing up for the pro am on Friday, 2 March. After the professional and amateur golfers compete through the day in the morning and afternoon field, there will be a free concert on the lawn at Beaconhills. Rick and the Legends will be performing.
The general public is welcome just bring along a rug or deck chair and enjoy the evening. The club is licenced, so there is no BYO, but drink and food will be available for purchase. Inquiries to 5945 9210.
