Recipes for good health

By Elizabeth Lillis
RECIPES for interesting lowfat meals are now within reach for Pakenham residents with the launch of a new cookbook.
The Cardinia Diabetes Awareness Group has recently launched its second recipe book, More Low Fat Recipes.
Group chairwoman Bev Hind said the book was designed for anyone with an interest in eating a lowfat healthy diet.
“It has 76 recipes divided into sections including dips, soups, light lunches, beef, chicken, almost vegetarian, cakes and desserts and, by request, an Italian section,” Mrs Hind said.
To launch the recipe book, a morning tea was held with group member Raffaelina Scuglia giving a presentation on her herb garden.
“Sandra Leone from Connect Diabetes attended to represent Diabetes Australia,” Mrs Hind said.
A hundred copies of the book have been printed with the assistance of Ian Ballantyne Accounting Services.
The recipes were tested by group member Marilyn Sarbach, who has worked as a professional chef, and were presented to Southern Health nutritionist Barbara Mitchell for evaluation as the book was put together.
The recipe book costs $15.
To obtain a copy of More Low Fat Recipes contact Marilyn on 5941 2836 or Bev 5940 1890.
The Cardinia Diabetes Awareness group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Pakenham Uniting Church on James Street, Pakenham.
The group, which has been operating for about three years, aims to provide support to those with diabetes and their families and create awareness living with the disease.
The group is preparing for its annual diabetes forum on 23 May.
