POLICE were called to Berwick last weekend after a person made a false report of a sex attack in the area along High Street, just west of the village.
Police said the person who made the report was being questioned.
The police activity set the rumour mill alight around town, with stories wrongly circulating of a body being found and murder investigation launched.
