Peter in a winning mood

By Glen Atwell
CAULFIELD trainer Peter Moody scored a winning double at the Pakenham Gazette Kids’ Day Out on Sunday, taking out consecutive races on a rainsoaked track.
His first winner, Perfect Rule (TAB $2), saluted in race five after easily beating Happy Storm and Regalito.
Moody then completed the running double in the feature race of the day, the $10,000 Cardinia Shire Cup.
Hendrik ($3.10) was too smart for his competition and raced away from Dolphin Tycoon and Ocean’s Twelve to collect the $6500 prize for Moody.
Both Moody’s runners were jockeyed by Jason Benbow, who rode his mounts to perfection.
The Cyberhorse Syndicate, a group of owners who have raced seven horses for six winners, owns Hendrik.
Hendrik was the group’s first runner to win two consecutive starts, after winning his previous start in Bairnsdale on 7 January.
In other races, Cranbournetrained gelding Effects ($3.50) won the Pakenham Gazette Class 3 Handicap.
The Leigh Childs runner settled third early in the race, but shifted back on the home turn and looked out of the race.
However apprentice jockey Ibrahim Gundogdu navigated his mount into clear running and powered past his rivals.
Childs said Effects had been a real training challenge.
“He had some problems with his front legs, but keeps getting better,” he said.
Effects has taken an obvious liking to the Pakenham track and has won two from two starts there.
Pakenham racing manager Michael Hodge said he was impressed by the way the track had handled the recent rain.
“Considering the amount that fell, the track performed very well,” he said.
The next race meeting at Pakenham is the relocated Cranbourne meeting on Sunday, 11 February.
Members’ Day follows on Friday, 16 February.
