Emerald hosted Tooradin in search of its first win. The Bombers got a great start when Clinton Marsh struck in the third over. He was bowling well with Daniel Porter and the two were unlucky not to get more rewards. After a run out Tooradin reached 2/135, when skipper Quentin Lucas came on to bowl. In his third over he found himself with the chance to grab a second hattrick in as many games. The hattrick ball was dropped but Lucas got his man a couple of balls later.
Another couple of wickets by Lucas and one by Tim Sproule put the Bombers in a good position at 8/205, but then the Bombers struggled with the last two wickets and Tooradin ended up making 9/323. The best of the bowlers was Lucas, who finished with another bag from his 18over spell of 5/43. Marsh bowled 20 overs and got 1/74 and Sproule 1/27.

Playing away at Pakenham, the Bombers won the toss and batted. Geoff Worrell and Jarred Gillespie got a solid start, the first wicket falling in the 12th over. Runs were hard to find on the huge ground but after another wicket James Litterbach and Worrell lifted the run rate. But the constant loss of wickets halted the Bombers’ progress. Greg Hamilton and Andrew Morris looked comfortable in their 24run stand but both were out in quick concession.
The tail tried to rally but it wasn’t to be and Emerald was bowled out for 105 in the 50th over. Worrell lasted 30 overs for his 28 and Morris looked good for his 18. With 18 overs to bowl at the end Cameron Williams, Worrell and Yohan Roelink all bowled well, Worrell claiming the wicket to close with Pakenham 1/35.

Emerald played Pakenham at home and got a shaky start, losing early wickets. Mick Vanleeuwen joined Chris Alenson and they steadied the ship for a few overs before Robbie Stewart joined Alenson at 4/47 and they batted well to bring the score to 85 before Stewart was out for a solid 29. Alenson was out a couple of overs later after doing a wonderful job opening the batting and lasting 50 overs for his 40.
With the score 8/99 youngsters Ash Lucas and Mark Hamilton came together and took to the attack with great success. The pair added a brisk 66 in 13 overs before Lucas was out for 38. Hamilton with Robert Wynne ted out the 70 overs and took the score to 191. Hamilton was 45 not out and Wynne was eight not out.

Emerald travelled to Kooweerup, won the toss and bowled. No wickets fell in the first 12 overs and it was left to new player Aaron Cameron to make the first breakthrough, claiming three wickets in his sixth over to bring the score to 3/22. But then the Bombers had to chase leather as the Kooweerup batsmen batted well to take the score to 4/193. Then Cameron came back to grab another three wickets and put the Bombers back into the match.
Euan Thoms was rewarded for good bowling by two late scalps and ended up with 3/57 and Kooweerup was all out for 228. Cameron was the pick of the bowlers with 6/92. With 12 overs to bat the Bombers got off to a great start, Cameron smacking a brilliant 51 to tak the Bombers to 0/76.

Emerald played a onedayer after rain the first week and bowled. The Bombers, with only nine players, did well throughout the overs to claim constant wickets and keep Beaconsfield to 5/102 off 22 overs. The best of the bowlers was Zeb Quigley (2/7). The Bombers never looked in the chase but fought well to be 6/87 after their 22 overs. The best of the bats were Ali Semaiha (25 not out) and Quigley (16).

The Reds’ Byron Sidwell (29 not out), James Bourke (15) and Corey Sweeney (33) showed what a difference batting practice makes. The batsmen down the order gave their all but the nineman team fell just 22 runs short of victory against Nar Nar GoonMaryknoll.
