MP warns fast train hopefuls

BASS MP Ken Smith warns commuters from Bunyip, Garfield and Nar Nar Goon risk missing out on the new fast train service.
The new service was expected to significantly boost rail transport in the area.
But Mr Smith said Transport Minister Peter Batchelor needed to ensure the trains stopped at all stations.
“The Minister needs to look at the timetables and ensure that the farce train stops at all stations, so that people in the areas of Bunyip, Garfield, Tynong and Nar Nar Goon can have a reliable, punctual and worthwhile service — not like the one they have now,” he said.
“These people live in a growth corridor and are in need of a proper public transport system, and would use a public transport system if it was reliable, and on which they felt they could probably get to work on time.”
Premier Steve Bracks said the fast rail project was the biggest upgrade to regional rail in 120 years, and would provide lasting economic and social benefits for the region, including new investment and jobs.
“Worldclass infrastructure, including new trains, new tracks and regular and reliable services will make regional Victoria the best place to live, work, invest and raise a family,” Mr Bracks said.
“We are delivering on our promise to revitalise the regional rail system.”
