Call out for nominations

TIME is running out to nominate for a Cardinia Australia Day Award an outstanding resident or event.
Fiona Hodges, Cardinia Shire Council general manager of community well-being, wants every school, community group, sporting club and committee to nominate at least one person for an award.
“In Cardinia, we’re fortunate to have a huge number of dedicated volunteer workers, who give up countless hours to improve our community,” she said.
“It’s time we recognised the achievements and dedication of these people by nominating them for an award. If you don’t, who will?”
Residents can be nominated in one of four categories, Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year.
Any individual or group can nominate someone for an award, and recipients needn’t be well known — perhaps they’ve directed the school choir, worked in the tuck shop, coached a footy team or helped out in just about any other field of community life.
The nominations will be assessed by an independent Cardinia Australia Day advisory committee, in accordance with National Australia Day Council guidelines.
Recipients will be announced during council’s Australia Day celebrations in Pakenham on 26 January, 2006.
Cardinia recognises the efforts of all finalists on Australia Day by presenting them with a certificate of commendation.
Nominations close on Friday, 18 November, 2005, and forms are available from the Cardinia Shire Council.
