Greens open at Pakenham

WITH the return of the bowling season everyone at Pakenham has been eager to practice on the greens.
In Friday night’s usual game of 15 ends 16 players participated.
There were two onegame winners. The winning team by four shots comprised Helen Aurish, Wilma Smart, Irene Stanbridge and Keith Emms (skip). The runnersup Gary Crowley, Tony Aarts, Mary Wall and Frank Aurish (skip) obtained their win by three shots.
On Thursday the VLBA section had its luncheon and guest day to celebrate the opening of the greens.
Among the guests were VLBA state councillor Jill Jolly with secretary Laraine Bysouth, Peninsula District Ladies Bowls Association president Wilma Kelly, association secretary, June Jones from Pakenham, VLBA section president Beth Webster, club treasurer Helen Byrne, with Thelma Brown representing section secretary Pat Carlin, who was ill with Barbara O’Brien from Bennetswood.
The preseason practice matches began on Saturday with two RVBA teams going to Cranbourne and the three other Pakenham teams practising at home, both venues being affected by rain.
At Cranbourne Pakenham (1) played on the synthetic green, while Pakenham (3) played on grass. No doubt both teams learnt a lot as did the teams playing at home.
On Saturday there was a practice game against Cranbourne with 76 players keen to get in early form. Five teams will represent Pakenham in the RVBA competition.
In the coming weeks practice games will be at Drouin and at home against Phillip Island and members will check the noticeboard.
