Mid-Gippsland bowls

IN Saturday’s division-one pennant round Trafalgar played Traralgon at home in the game of the round, involving the two top spots on the ladder.
The game proved close to the last bowl played.
Traralgon got home by just one shot when Barry Lane failed to draw second shot to make a draw.
Traralgon had a handy lead at tea before Trafalgar headed the visitors late in the day but then Traralgon gained vital shots to grab the lead and hang on to win 93/92.
For the winners Ross Sizeland beat Barry Lane 25/21 and Abe Roeder won 28/17 against Smokey Dawson.
Ian Miles beat Chris Ward 29/23 and Terry Comber won 25/17 over Andrew Kent to give Trafalgar its two rink wins.
Morwell Club travelled to Drouin for another big game but found the home side too tough and went down 79/98 to a committed side that seemed to have recovered from its first-round defeat.
Moe was at home against Neerim and three rinks won and the other played a draw in a 118/72 win.
Rex Price returned a big 42/7 win to set his side up for the big margin.
Yallourn showed Longwarry no mercy and carried three rinks in its 123/76 win.
Yallourn led the ladder narrowly from Traralgon, Drouin and Trafalgar.

In other games RSL won 97/71 against Thorpdale, Garfield had a good 100/79 win over Yallourn North and Warragul showed it would be a force with a resounding 131/73 win against Traralgon (3).

In division five Morwell Club continued its good form with a big win over Drouin. Morwell Club won 90/48, which is a big score in a three-rink competition.
Traralgon has its first win, downing Yallourn 79/67, Yinnar won well over neighbour Boolarra 74/53 and Neerim almost doubled Trafalgar Park’s score, winning 95/49.
In division six west the two Drouin sides met, number four winning 55/38 against number five.
Warragul (4) beat Garfield 51/38 and Warragul (5) beat Neerim 49/35.
In division six east Morwell won 52/39 over Yarragon, Trafalgar beat RSL 55/46 and Yallourn North was forced to give Moe (4) a forfeit due to lack of players.
During the week the group-eight final of the veterans pairs was played and won by Warragul pair Ray Kennebury and Stan Weller.
The Warragul pair seemed in control but dropped a five to go into the last end with their Lakes Entrance opponents.
They gained one shot to be worthy winners.
