Loss shatters ROC

ROC play maker Kable Dowsett swings on to the right boot and snaps a great goal to put the Kangaroos in front late in the final term against Beaconsfield.ROC play maker Kable Dowsett swings on to the right boot and snaps a great goal to put the Kangaroos in front late in the final term against Beaconsfield.

ROC senior’s finals’ chances took a dive after a heartbreaking onepoint loss to Beaconsfield on Saturday.
After trailing for most of the day, the Kangaroos hit the front by six points with only minutes remaining, but were shattered when a goal and then a snapped behind gave the visitors victory.
The exciting game kept the large crowd enthralled as the Kangaroos gave everything against the hot favourites.
Injuries to Sean Stanton, Steve Pursell and Matt Castricum left ROC without a bench in the final quarter.
The Kangaroos now need to win their final game and rely on other results going their way to snare a spot in the final five.
Clint Williams, Callum White and Ben Tivendale led the way for ROC and were well supported by David Main and Craig Eagleton.
Coach Hayden Stanton praised the entire team for a fourquarter effort against quality opposition.
Scores: Beaconsfield 12.11.83 d ROC 11.16.82.
Goals: Ben Tivendale 3, Callum White and Clint Williams 2, Kable Dowsett, Mick Moylan, Jarrod Goodes and Brenton Cowell, 1.
The Elders WGF Player Awards went to Clint Williams, Callum White, Ben Tivendale, David Main and Craig Eagleton.

RESERVES

ROC had a good hitout in the lead up to the finals with a good win over Beaconsfield.
The difference between the final scores was not indicative of the toughness of the game, but the Kangaroos’ determination to win each contest and a higher skill level saw them run out victors by a comfortable margin.
Drew Tucker dominated the ruck duels, winning almost every contest and giving his onballers plenty of possessions.
Anthony Jones also starred for the Kangaroos and regularly delivered the ball with precision to the tall forwards in Nisbet and Jones, as well as Steve McIntyre who helped himself to four majors.
Peter Tucker played another solid game in defence and Dan Fisher used his strength to advantage.
Scores: ROC 19.14.128 d Beaconsfield 11.3.69.
Goals: Steve McIntyre 4, Chris Jones Rhys Nisbet and Steve Nuutinen 3, Anthony Jones 2, Daniel Fisher, Peter Quinn, Peter Tucker and Jai Allco, 1.
The Shanika’s Restaurant Berwick Player Awards went to Anthony Jones, Andrew Tucker, Peter Tucker, Steve Nuutinen and Daniel Fisher.

UNDER 18

An understrength Kangaroos side was no match for the experienced and well disciplined Beaconsfield team.
The Eagles blitzed the home side in the first quarter kicking 12 goals and even though the young ROC side became more competitive as the game wore on, could not make inroads into the huge lead.
Max Sanderson played strongly in the ruck and battled gamely all day. Sean Sullivan played a good captain’s game whether on the ball or shoring up the defences and Nathan Phillips also played well and was rewarded with two goals.
Overall the Kangaroos were outclassed by a very good side.
Scores: Beaconsfield 34.13.217 d ROC 3.0.18.
Goals: Nathan Phillips 2 and Jamie Glen 1.
The Hermitage Homes Player Awards went to Sean Sullivan, Max Sanderson, Nick McLennan, Gavin Staindl and Shaun Main.
