THE Gembrook Market has earned a $10,000 boost from the State Government.
The market, to be launched on Sunday, 28 August, is intended to contribute to the Gembrook community’s identity as a growing tourism location.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said the market would be special with its focus on sustainable living, environmental responsibility and health.
“The concept of this market has been driven by members of the Gembrook community, led by the Gembrook Market Committee, and they have shown dedication to ensuring this market will be of the highest possible standard, as well as the only one of its type in the district,” Ms Labato said.
She recently met with John Cascone, Merle Mathisen and Charlene Hosemans in Gembrook to discuss the forthcoming market launch and the government’s support for the project.
Minister for State and Regional Development John Brumby also emphasised the importance of this new funding for Gembrook.
“Gembrook is one of those rural communities adjoining the metropolitan area which is having to adapt to rapid changes in land use, population and lifestyles,” Mr Brumby said.
Ms Lobato said she would be holding a stall at the market.
“I have been assisting the community with the relaunch of the oncefamous Gembrook Market and in its new reinvented form, I am sure it will be a major attraction for residents and tourists from near and far.
“I am looking forward to the new Gembrook Market next month and congratulate all the hardworking members of the Gembrook Market Committee in securing this grant and working so hard for the promotion of this community.”
