BERWICK Youth girls’ football season ended on Saturday when they went down to reigning premiers Sacre Coeur Kangaroos in the preliminary final at Sweeney Reserve on Saturday.
Sacre Coeur played strong football and kept Berwick scoreless in the first half, while slotting through four majors.
Berwick showed improvement in the second half, but the result was never in doubt as Sacre Coeur recorded a welldeserved fivegoal victory.
The Kangaroos had done their homework and doubletagged Berwick playmaker Mariah Marshall throughout the game.
Without the drive of Marshall, Berwick struggled and could not match Sacre Coeur’s commitment to the ball.
Berwick’s onballers were well held and struggled to gain ascendancy at the clearances.
Despite the disappointment, Berwick has performed well this season under new coach Hugh Marshall who inherited a team that only had one victory in its first season.
Berwick finished the homeandaway season in second spot and pushed flag favourites Hallam last week to eventually fall just two goals short.
Berwick will play Rosebud in the consolation final at Sweeney Reserve on Saturday.
