Work to start on library

GROUND should be broken on the Emerald Library project within weeks, following the appointment of building contractor Allmore Constructions.
The longawaited facility is the first stage of what Cardinia Shire Council has planned as a dynamic new heart for Emerald.
The construction of the main library, two meeting rooms and toy library are the key components of a $2.25 million project.
An adjoining community centre and public hall are expected to be built in coming years.
Council mayor Garry Runge said the design and internal layout of the library has evolved over the past year as a result of regular consultation with Casey Cardinia Library Corporation and local community representatives through the Emerald Library Community Advisory Committee.
“Council officers and architect Wendy Hastrich have been working closely with library user groups to ensure all elements of the library project receive suitable space for their operations,” he said.
“We’re confident of delivering a library which will meet the needs of the Emerald and wider hills community.”
Allmore is said to have had an extensive background in largescale civic and education construction and refurbishment, including work on the Monash University Library and Northcote Library.
