Bunyip Show on hold

THE 2009 Bunyip Agricultural Show is cancelled.
The Show committee at its February meeting has decided to put the event on the shelf for this year only.
It would have been the 110th Bunyip Show. The dog show will go ahead as usual, on 4 April. The kennel section is traditionally among the most popular of the show events.
“In light of the society’s current financial position, the possible impact on the 2009 Show of the current economic climate, and the disastrous fires across Victoria, it was felt that to try to run the full show and lose money would not allow the society to continue to operate in the future,” the society’s website stated yesterday.
“The committee has made this decision with regret.”
Junior vice-president Bill Bickerton said yesterday the organisers were now preparing for the 2010 show. Mr Bickerton said the “present climate” had caused the cancellation.
“We are calling for interested people to support the Bunyip Show as they always have with sponsorship and in other ways, to make 2010 a bumper year,” Mr Bickerton said.
