Vealers and steers scooped up

LIGHTER steers and vealers sold strongly last Wednesday as restockers took advantage of the larger penning of store type head at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Four hundred and forty six vealers in turn rose two cents on these sales, as well as the better end in high demand.
This week’s top was 238.2 cents in a yarding of good to very good quality.
One hundred and sixty three steers also took the two cents rise on average, all selling to better demand.
One hundred and eighty five cents was the top for steers this week and 91 heifers slowed slightly in demand with a larger penning of smaller light quality head on offer.
These younger heifers failed to attract the attention granted their brothers.
The top price was 170 cents with the average five cents easier.
Eighty eight bullocks were yarded, and with some lighter conditioned head yarded demand eased and the average came back three cents to 156.5 cents. Bullocks matched heifers topping at 170 cents.
Demand rose on Thursday for all categories at the bull and cow sale.
Twenty one bulls were four cents better at 145.9 cents and reached a top of 165 cents.
Bullocks also made a step up lifting the average 10 cents to 149.4 cents and made to 161.6 cents.
Five hundred and twenty eight cows jumped eight cents to 120.1 cents.
Beef cows were strong, selling to 158.2 cents and dairy cows selling in the high 140s, on average the yarding was eight cents higher at 122.2 cents.
